When moving goods from the UK to Poland, the VAT responsibility lies with the Polish company receiving the service. This means they are liable for paying the VAT, which is calculated at 23% of the taxable base. To simplify the process, Estonian freight forwarders issue invoices without VAT, indicating “NO VAT.”
If the Estonian freight forwarder is registered for VAT in Estonia and the Polish company isn’t registered for VAT in Poland, the forwarder must report the VAT due in Poland. This is in accordance with Article 28b of the VAT Act.

To ensure transparency and compliance, the Estonian forwarder issues a VAT invoice to the Polish company. This invoice includes detailed information about both parties, a comprehensive description of the services, and a clear breakdown of the VAT amount due in Poland. This meticulous invoicing process adheres to regulations and provides a clear understanding of VAT obligations for Polish customers.
